Fun in the Flatlands – Sept. 8-11, 2022

Pioneer Days* Rib Cook-off * 4-H Achievement  - Saturday, September 11th   

Thursday, September 8

      11 am—1 pm—Customer Appreciation Lunch at American Federal of Ada

Friday, September 9

    Twisted Sisters & Main Street Bar’s Street Dance, Shrimp Boil & Bean Bag Tournament!  $40 (includes meal and dance admittance) Meal starts at 5 pm.  Bean Bags at 6 pm. Dance at 9 pm with 2 Week Notice. (Street In front of Twisted Sisters/Pub 21)  Purchase advance tickets at Twisted Sisters.

     5—8 pm—Open House Family Fun Night with free swimming, Wally ball, racquetball at the Dekko Community Center.  Come celebrate the Dekko Community Center’s 30th Anniversary!

     9 pm –Street Dance with 2 Week Notice in front of Twisted Sisters ($10 admission unless you purchased the inclusive package above) 

Saturday, September 10

ALL Day – Ada-Borup-West Volleyball Invitational Tournament at the ABW School.

 

Events at the Norman County Fairgrounds, Coliseum, 4-H Building & Prairie Village next to Fairgrounds 8:30 am —5:30 pm

(all events free except where noted)

  8:30 am – 4 pm – Cook off Competition - Kelly Thronson Annual Backyard BBQ Rib and Chicken Fest. On Midway Awards at 5:30 pm with cash prizes.. (Information  & register on Facebook: Kelly Thronson memorial backyard bbq or email ktmbbq@gmail.com) (participation fee)

 9 am – 2 pm – 4-H Food Stand open at 4-H Building (fundraiser for IXL & Hegne Hustlers).

 9 am - Registration at 4-H Building for 4-H Achievement Day Fall Produce Exhibits. Judging at 9:30.

 9 am - 3 pm – Craft Sale in the 4-H Building and in front of the Coliseum. To reserve a space call Angie Nelson at 784-5456.

 9:30—11:30 am—Blyss Flower Farm “Build Your Own Bouquet” with fresh flowers for all ages ($10 & $20 sizes)  (4-H Building)

 10 am—ALL DAY HORSE FUN SHOW in Arena—Goes until around 4:30 pm. (Red River Saddle Club)

11 am - Bean Bag Tournaments start in Beer Gardens. Register 10:30 am - Beer Garden, $20 team, 100% payout. Ada Future Leaders.

 11 am—1 pm—Skipper the Clown by Tommy Roesch stage area.  Sponsored by AgCountry Farm Credit Services

FOOD: PIONEER FOOD COURT, 4-H FOOD STAND, CHATTE BELLS ICE CREAM & PEOPLES CHOICE during Ribfest

 11 am—2 pm—Pioneer Food Court - Coliseum.  Food from the “Good Old Days” including Potato Dumplings, homemade chicken noodle soup, flat bread, lefsa, romegrot, apple desserts, ice cream, homemade bread and jelly, popcorn balls, sausage and kraut, homemade beans and more!  (Fundraiser sponsored by the Norman County Historical Society. Tickets sold at the door).

Ongoing demonstrations and displays in Coliseum to include quilt show, barn quilts, Aalgaard Photo Selection, Historic Fashion and Design with mannequins and models table with artifacts available for a donation.. (Norman County Historical Society). 

11  am – 3 pm – George’s Concertina Band in  Coliseum FREE thanks to a grant from Northwest Minnesota Arts Council *see below*

11:30 am – 3 pm - Soybean Sand Box in front of Coliseum (Sponsored by Soybean Growers Assn).

12 pm – 3 pm – Prairie Village open. Check out the Log Museum, Print Shop, Churches, Schoolhouse, Country Store, Barber and Beauty Shop, Log House, Doll House, Syre Depot and the Machinery Building.

12 pm – 4 pm—Raven Works Forge blacksmith demonstrations (front of 4-H bldg)  FREE thanks to a grant from Northwest Minnesota Arts Council *see below

12 pm – 4 pm – Basket Weaving Demonstrations and Classes with Buffy Rockstad from Studio 4:13  (4-H bldg)  Event and projects for 50 people are FREE  thanks to a grant from Northwest Minnesota Arts Council *see below

12 pm – 4 pm – Garden Art Demonstrations and Classes with repurposed items and succulents with Sheila Capistran (4-H bldg). Event and projects for 50 people are FREE thanks to a grant from Northwest Minnesota Arts Council *see below

12 pm – 1:30 pm –Kids games and bubble fun.  In front of Coliseum by Ada Cub Scouts (Sponsored by City of Ada, Al’s Disposal & Ada Chamber)

12:30 pm – 2 pm – “Get Green Kids Activities” Sponsored by Norman County 4-H (in front of Coliseum)

12:30 pm – 2 pm – 4-H Achievement Day Fall Produce Displays in the 4-H Building

  1  pm – 2 pm – Rib Fest People’s Choice competition tasting on midway.  All Welcome!  $5 cover.

  1  pm - 2:30 pm – Face Painting (in front of Coliseum) Sponsored by City of Ada.

  2 pm —3 pm—Bubble Foam Party—Giant Bubble Bath (sponsored by Laughing Earth, Sorenson Electric, Al’s Disposal & West Central Ag Services)

  5:30 pm – Awards Presentation for BBQ Cook-off & Peoples Choice

Heart of the Valley Golf Course at 12:00 Noon

Sunday, September 11

10 am—3 pm or when completed – Horse Show at Arena at Norman County Fairgrounds (Red River Valley Saddle Club).

  2—5 pm—”Sock Hop” Family Friendly Dance with the band “Short Notice” at the Ada Event Center. FREE.  All ages welcome!  FREE  thanks to a grant from Northwest Minnesota Arts Council *see below 

*Laura Tweten & Sommer Lockhart from Thrivent will provide entertainment during the band’s breaks

      *Snacks available (IXL and Hegne Hustlers 4-H Club Fundraiser)

i* These events are free thanks to Northwest Minnesota Arts Council.  They awarded an Arts Grant to the Ada Chamber of Commerce which allows us to hold these events free of charge.  In November 2008, Minnesotans passed the Clean Water, Land and Legacy Amendment to the Minnesota Constitution.  It provided dedicated funding for the arts and cultural heritage in our state for 25 years.
